Table and Chair Covers
Outdoor furniture has evolved and today you can see furniture in showrooms that are meant for the outdoors but can easily be used indoors as well. They are made from wood but are painted and textured in bright colors. It is modern outdoor furniture at its best. But if you are on a budget and yet wish to make the most of your outdoors, then you can do well with a table and a chair set. Yes, this is the most basic furniture of them all. No fancy recliners, no swinging gliders and no Adirondack chairs. An oval table made of high quality teak wood and a set of four chairs to match. You can have a family dinner outside under the stars, you can have a barbeque and grill the best kebabs or you can simply have a spur of the moment picnic on your patio. While tables and chairs of wood can give you years of trouble free service, they need to be cared for and looked after to make this possible.
Caring for your tables and chairs
Understanding your furniture is the best way to care for it. What kind of wood has been used in the furniture? Is it made of teak wood which is probably the best wood for outdoor furniture? Teak wood has a lot of natural oils in it which make it one of the most durable woods out there. On the other hand, cedar is also a very good option. There are different methods of caring for different types of wood. Let us divide the entire process of caring for your outdoor furniture into two parts.
- Protecting the furniture: Protecting the furniture is almost like preventing a disease. Have not you heard that prevention is better than cure? Well, then invest in a quality outdoor furniture covers for your tables and chairs. You can choose from a patio table and chair cover combo which is a one piece cover set that fits over both or you can buy individual covers for each chair and table. I prefer using the combo because it is easier to use and it is cheaper than buying covers for each piece of furniture. You can choose a patio table cover made from all kinds of materials but the most common and the most durable one of them all is vinyl. Vinyl is a synthetic fiber that is most durable and soft to the touch as well. It does a great job of protecting your tables and chairs from harsh weather. Vinyl covers can be easily slipped on the table and chair and secured with Velcro straps which keep them in place. Some of the vinyl covers are so durable that they can even bear a storm.
- Caring for your tables and chairs: Now that you have secured your table and chair with an outdoor table cover, the next step is caring for your furniture. Regular cleaning sessions are a must to remove dust, stains and other chemicals which may harm the wood. While you might be tempted to use strong cleaners to clean the tables and chairs, it is recommended that you only use warm water and soap to clean it. Once you clean it, let it dry completely before you replace the garden table cover. Other than cleaning, it is necessary to treat the wood annually with chemicals that protect the wood and help it last really long.
You can also choose a furniture set that uses a combo of wood and metal. A completely wooden body with a cast iron frame will last really long.
