Stationary Sprinklers

The A2Z of stationary sprinklers

When I started gardening, I just had my watering can for company. Then as I started to learn the importance of timely and effective watering, I switched to a garden hose with a nozzle. Then after almost 4 years of gardening, I decided that it was time to switch to a sprinkler system. But like everything else, I like to start small and slow. So I was looking for a sprinkler system that is least expensive but serves the purpose nevertheless. I came to know that there were other factors to be considered besides the price. The area of land that needs to be watered, the soil type and the rate of the water flow are some of the other things that need to be considered. Since my garden was relatively smaller, I opted for an extremely cost effective solution in a stationary sprinkler.

Stationary sprinklers

Stationary sprinklers are pretty much what the name suggests. They do not sprinkler water by rotating or revolving. They are attached low on the ground on a sled type base. There are several different types of designs for a stationary sprinkler. One of the most common designs is that of a ring with several holes through which the water sprays out. These are ideal for a small garden and the curtain of water sprays in a circular pattern. The salt shaker type stationary lawn sprinkler is also very popular. This design has several rings on a turret which can be adjusted to change the water pattern. Some stationary sprinklers are also sued to spray fertilizers in the garden. The swirling type spot sprinkler is the most advanced type of stationary sprinkler. These are the lowest costing sprinkler system that you can ever get.

Pulsating sprinkler

If you want something more efficient but expensive, then you can opt for the pulsating sprinkler. These sprinklers work on a lower pressure but are much more effective and cover a larger area. These are ideal for smaller or medium sized lawns. The spray of water is also much stronger and hence is wind resistant. Oscillating sprinklers have a problem of getting clogged but not pulsating sprinklers. They have an extremely large orifice which prevents clogging completely. Pulsating sprinklers can be made of a huge variety of materials which includes brass, plastic and steel.
