Hammocks

Have you heard that the greatest of pleasures lies in the simplest of things? This saying is perfectly true and there is no better example of this saying than the hammock. The hammock is a fabric sling that is made of a network of synthetic rope and tied firmly between two solid supports. It can be two trees, two poles or just about anything that can support the weight of an individual who rests on it. Hammocks are a common part of the American culture. It is not known who first discovered the hammock but it is said that it was created out of the need for protection from snakes and other creatures. It also protects the sleeper from durst, dirt and other elements. Nevertheless, the hammock has made huge in roads into our lives and almost everyone loves the concept of lying in a rope hammock gazing towards the sky with a cool breeze blowing. Hammocks have evolved with time and there are several variants which are commonly used by campers today.

Types of hammock

Today, you can choose from a hammock according to the design made popular by the country of its origin, for example, Brazilian hammocks, Mayan hammocks and Nicaraguan hammocks. Each one of these hammocks has its own distinct style and pros and cons. They differ in design and even in the material that is used for their making. Some have a wooden bar at the end which makes it wide and you can easily access it. However, it is one of the lesser used styles because the wooden panels are considered to be an obstruction for sleeping soundly. The Brazilian hammock is made of fabric and is stronger than the rope hammock. The cotton hammock is a prime example of this one. One of the most advanced hammocks though is the camping hammock. They are also called as the parachute hammock in some circles. They are preferred by campers as they are lighter in weight, are made of environment friendly materials and easy to use and store. This has many added features like pockets for storage, an added mosquito net etc. Some camping hammocks even have a slit in the middle and at the bottom to allow the camper to get into the hammock easily. If you are a regular camper then the heavy duty portable hammock is one of the best ones that money can buy. It is extremely durable and worth every cent that it costs.

The comfort factor

Apart from the usability and the ease of carrying them, the comfort is another factor that you should look into when purchasing hammocks. The good old rope hammocks might be the most common ones, but some people do not find them very comfortable especially if the rope used to create the hammock is not soft to the touch. This is one of the reasons why fabric hammocks were created in the first place. It brings together the comfort of fabric and the fun of lying in a hammock together. Cotton hammocks are the most common ones but now synthetic fibers are also used to create hammocks. Another common hanging hammock is the Mayan one which is made of a web of fabric.

The look

Once you have decided on the type of hammock that you wish to buy, decide on the look. Hammocks come in a variety of colors but bright colors are most common. You can choose from holiday prints if you are buying a fabric hammock. The Hawaiian print is one of the commonest and most used ones. Look for websites that sell hammocks for more pictures and details about different types of hammocks.
