An Essential Part of Maintaining Your Ponds is Aeration and Filtration
When you have beautified your garden with a pond one of the prime things is maintenance so that you keep them clean. Water filtration systems work best when maintained properly. The filter must operate well in order to keep debris out of the pond. Fishponds need special maintenance, and it may be necessary to scrub the sides of the pond to remove any stubborn dirt that might stick to it. Pond cleaning is a must after every bout of heavy rains as it is during this time that the maximum dirt is likely to be washed in so that you can keep the fish safe.
Micro filtration systems help a great deal in keeping your garden ponds clean. When absolutely unavoidable, however, you might even need to clear out your pond and change the filtration system. Another way is to drain out some of the water and refill it, so that your water filtration system can handle it from there.
Another must have system to keep your pond or water garden healthy is a pond aeration system. Pond aeration oxygenates your pond and keeps it habitable in all seasons. In summer when it is hot it makes available adequate oxygen to your pond. In winter, in addition to providing oxygen, pond aeration also keeps part of the surface of your pond from freezing. This gap in the ice lets in fresh oxygen and also provides a route for toxic gases to escape.
There are aeration stones for ponds that create small air bubbles that rise to the surface of the water. These in turn carry oxygen from the surface to the ponds bottom, circulating it evenly. It is important to choose your pond aeration system with care, keeping in mind the size of your pond. This will keep your pond healthy, clear, and sufficiently oxygenated.
