Poor Performer Aug 31, 2010 I was searching for a good portable gas grill for camping. Maybe you get what you pay for in the end. Set up was easy, it started fine and heated, but not enough to put grill marks on burgers. The only time it got hot enough is if there were flare ups from the dripping fat onto the flavorizer plate, but that in itself created gas outages. I had to monitor the grill to ensure that the flame did not go out and every so often I had to push the starter to reignite.
I am a graduate from the Culinary Institute of America and consider myself an accomplished cook with a very keen eye for quality. I cannot recommend this purchase for anyone other than the average casual cook. This grill will cook hot dogs and sausages fine, but the more expensive cuts deserve more respect. Since I own one now, I will continue to use it for only low impact grilling without any wind to blow out the flame. If you are searching for a good grill, pan this purchase and continue your search. For me, I think I would have been better served with a charcoal grill. Happy camping.
Flavor, flavor, flavor! Aug 30, 2010 I've gone through an assortment of types of grills in my life this one delivers the flavour. It's great for one or two person household or a camping trip. It does take time to heat up for a gas grill about 10 to 15 minutes, this is the only reason I gave it a 4 star instead of a 5 star. What it can do to lamb chops is unbelievable. I've never had such delicious meat until I used this grill. It does use those little propane tanks and they can be refilled just like the big tanks for the bigger gas grills. From what I've read it is possible to hook up a bigger tank. I leave this little grill in a corner in the kitchen and when I want to use it I attach my little tank and away we go. When finished the tank comes off for safe storage and the grill is back in it's spot in the kitchen. It's small enough to keep in the house so it doesn't rust in the bad weather. All the times I've used it it's never left drippings on the deck. All the drippings evaporate to make the meat so tasty. Works wonderful with veggies too.
Terrific grill; does great job in the winter, too Aug 27, 2010 This is my second season using this nifty little grill and the more I use it, the more I enjoy it. It heats quickly and evenly, and cooks very well.
It's small enough to sit on a table inside my screened back porch and I prefer using the small propane canisters, just to save space. Even though I live in a cold and snowy area, we used the grill during the winter months as well, thanks to the covered porch off the kitchen.
No rust so far, but in case the flavor bar does start to rust, it can be replaced for $10. The cooking grid and flavor bar are small enough to easily clean in the kitchen sink.
Weber 1520 Propane Gas Go-Anywhere Grill Aug 15, 2010 Very pleased. Researched all makes and models and determined best value for the money. Excellent quality compared to others in this class. You can not go wrong with Weber. Used several times. Yes, it can use the standard 16.4 green tanks or the 14.1 oz. tanks. For some reason all retail wording says 14.1. Call Weber like I did and they will tell you it can also take the 16.4. Since I bought it, several other reviews now confirm this too. I have only used the 16.4 with no problem. Interesting design to almost completely avoid flare-ups. It has a single large flavorizer angled plate that is higher in the middle (like an upside down V) and the air slots have an overhang that overlaps the slots slots (think a roof shingle) so it hard to cause a flare-up. Stores compact with legs foldding over the top to clamp it together. Handle does get warm during grilling. Great portable grill.
Excellent Portable Grill Aug 15, 2010 This is a great portable grill; got one just like my parents. Priced right and grills great. Would recommend over the others available.
