wobble wobble Mar 13, 2010 I never even got to use this thing, after unpacking it, I set it on my counter and it just wobbled. I looked at the bottom and saw that the 4 legs were all bent, or had somehow been installed (backwards?) so that it was impossible for it to sit evenly. I must also say, although I never even got to the point of trying to actually use it, that I had concerns regarding the water tightness. The screw on plastic base did not have any kind of gasket or seal. Also, the jar did not fit easily into the base. The motor has a square peg that the jar fits over; the jar wobbled back and forth and I thought that it was not seated properly. The whole item had a cheap, shoddy feel to it.
13 years of hard service and still kicking Mar 12, 2010 Maybe I got lucky: 'Planned Obsolescence' being what it is, perhaps one of these made today will not be the same quality as the one I bought 13 years ago. But I bought this blender in 1997, and have replaced the ice grinding blade once, and now must replace the plastic collar at the base, because I dropped the glass carafe on the floor, and it bounced, did not break, but the collar and blade popped off... because the plastic collar had broken, yet the glass was unharmed.
About a year ago, I smelled that bad familiar smell of motor windings going, and feared I would soon be shopping for a replacement. It did lose a little power. So I have been babying it along, still grinding ice, but pulsing and pausing to stir down, instead of just running it straight like before.
Still getting granitas and mudslides out of it, just fine.
It also has been put to hard use grinding table salt into 'superfine' salt which I keep in a jar and use on popcorn.
Definitely one of the kitchen workhorses I treasure, but again, that's the model bought in 1997. I can't vouch for current manufacturing.
LOUD! Mar 10, 2010 This machine is ear-piercingly loud!!! My ears were ringing for ten minutes after I used it for 1 min (making mayo -not anything loud like ice). I'm going to send it back because I just couldn't stand the noise.

The Circular Saw That Makes Smoothies Mar 06, 2010 This thing is hugely powerful, and LOUD, but then again it's got 600 watts, so what do you expect? I got this to replace my old Hamilton Beach 350 watt unit, which was good, but hard to keep clean and had a missing top.
If you were to hypothetically put your hand in there and flip the switch, this blender would obliterate your limb in seconds. It's kinda scary. But it makes great smoothies!
The metal drive parts are excellent, as plastic components are about as stupid as can be for high-stress applications like blending, and a lot of blenders have plastic-on-plastic drive mechanisms. The base is all metal, but the rim around the part where you set the pitcher into the drive mechanism is chrome-colored plastic, which is annoying. Why not make the whole damn thing out of the same piece of metal and just forge it as one steel unit? Hell if I know. The rest of the unit looks really durable, however.
My blender was NOT chrome, by the way, but rather brushed steel, so beware. It's still great, and easier to prevent fingerprints on anyway.
BTW, you can get this now at Wal-Mart for $56.

Plastic base to jar cracked Mar 03, 2010 I've only used this blender a handful of times since purchasing it in 2009, and I usually hand-wash it rather than put it thru the dishwasher. But the black screw-on base to the blender jar has already cracked (in three places) - completely unusable.
