I Love My Lodge Logic Dec 04, 2008 I love this pan. I've avoided getting a cast iron skillet for ages because I was afraid it would be hard to manage and hard to take care of. But this pan is really easy. Lodge Cast Iron has a website that has a really nice Use and Care section so that helped me with knowing how to take care of the skillet.
I had a leather handle cover from previous cookware and put that over the cast iron handle to make it easier to manage the skillet while it was hot. Just using a potholder is also the logical option. I haven't really needed to move the pan while using it though. I thought that would be a problem as my other (lighter) skillets always needed moving. This one doesn't.
The little handle on the opposite side helps too, for when I want to empty the pan, like to drain the frying oil out of it.
I got the pre-seasoned, which doesn't cost much more and I think is a great time-saver. Lodge says their pre-seasoning provides better performance as well, which may be the case.
One Con: the pan is very rough. I am pretty sure all iron skillets are this way when brand new, but it's kind of a pain when drying it with a paper towel or towel because it shreds them quite effortlessly. Time and use will smooth it out, I've been told. Other than that it's my favorite pan. I use it all the time.
Great Product! Nov 30, 2008 This is a quality product at a reasonable price. I made cornbread in it a few nights ago and it came out great. Would definitely recommend.
Quality like always Nov 25, 2008 This was not my first Lodge purchase, nor will it be my last. As always, quality was top-notch. What really makes this a very practical and useful pan is its overall size when you compare it to 12 inch stainless steel skillets. The shorter handle and off-side grip make it very practical and efficient for items that you want to sear and then finish in the oven.
Just As Expected Nov 23, 2008 Good item. Came well seasoned and ready to use. Great price - I would recommend it.
I love it! Maintains good even heat. Still trying to "care for it" Nov 23, 2008 This is my second iron-first from Lodge Logic. This one is much better than my other cheap one (which I tossed). I live in a very humid climate, so I'm always fighting to keep it from rusting. I've used it about 20 times and I'm still oiling it. I don't cook a lot of greasy foods, so that might be why it's taking so long to be seasoned very well...even though it is "pre-seasoned." I use a regular scrubber, but need to get a metal one. That might help.
I love the size. When it's oiled really good, it's perfect. The heat is maintained very well. It doesn't cool easily. Even cold eggs don't cool it off. Things cook much faster than with my old teflon.
