1Not worth the $$$  Jan 05, 2009
The idea of an ice cream maker with a compressor was just what I was looking for, but this is NOT it! The compressor part is great-it is the motor that turns the paddle/dasher that is not worth a dime. The book that came with it says that once you get the compressor working and the inner chambre is chilled set the timer for 30-45 min-HA! The motor whimps out after 10-12 min. I wrote to the mfgr, and got NO response. Don't waste your money on this one, get one that chambre goes in the freezer-they have a MUCH stronger motor that will churn the ice cream until it is DONE!!!

1Product no longer supported, Deni knows nothing about it  Oct 10, 2008
I thought this ice cream maker was great until the top motor quit working. Since that's not the compressor (expensive part) I thought I could easily get a replacement top motor for it. However, when I contacted Deni, they said they no longer made it, they knew nothing about it and certainly couldn't help me with replacement parts.
Bottom line, with so much to go wrong with this machine, spend a few extra dollars and get one from a reputable company.

1Deni Should Be Ashamed  Aug 23, 2008
I can't believe anyone would put something this poor on the market. First of all the compressor kept kicking out after about 15 min of use. I found that if I put an external fan on the unit, then the compressor stayed on. I then tried making one of the "ice" recipes. I followed the instructions precisely and properly chilled the mixture. After the unit ran for about 20 min the paddles started to jerk about due to the heavy ice formation on the sides of the container. This jerking caused the mixture to splash all about. Finally, the ice buildup was too much for the motor and it just stopped. Then I couldn't get the container out because the splashing ran down between the can and freezer and froze solid. I am going to try an ice cream type formula to see how that works. At anyrate, I'll still have to return the unit due to the compressor cooling issue. The internal compressor fan must be defective.

1Don't buy, not reliable and doesn't hold up for the long run.  Dec 30, 2007
I purchased this machine on line and was excited when it arrived. I let it sit like the instructions said for 12 hours before using it. The first two batches of ice cream were wonderful, smooth, creamy and delicious and I was happy. No ice cream maker makes ice cream which is really hard so I expected and wanted soft ice cream from this unit. Put it in the freezer if you want it hard.

However, on the third batch, the compressor became very hot, began to smell like something melting or burning and the compressor shut off but the paddle was still turning. I turned off the machine, put the container in the freezer and tried again in about 15 minutes and it then completed it. OK I said, maybe I didn't have it chilled enough, maybe it was just a fluke since the last two batches were just fine. Last night I tried again. I put the mix into the freezer until I saw that it was beginning to freeze. I started up the compressor before I put in the mix for about 10 minutes just to be sure it was cooling and was very cold. Then I put the bucket with the mix into the machine and started the paddles. It ran for about 15 minutes and seemed to be working fine. I could see that it was beginning to set up, but then.....the same thing happened again. The unit became very warm to the touch on top and started to smell like something electrical was beginning to melt or burn and what was frozen began to melt.

I am so frustrated with this. I am returning the product for a refund. As a side note, I had also purchased the refurbished Cuisinart ICE-50 prior to this which also had a compressor problem and had to be returned (at my expense on the postage). Then I decided to try the Deni. I don't think these little compressor models are ready for consumers yet. They are too unreliable and finicky. Go to the store and buy your ice cream, go to Dairy Queen or get the old fashioned ice and rock salt kind like mother used to have.

1Piece of junk!  Oct 23, 2007
Wish I'd never purchased this piece of junk! I am using REAL cream and REAL milk--from my beautiful Dutch-Belted cows. Nothing but the very best ingredients! My mixture FREEZES to the SIDE of the container before it's done, stops the paddle from turning, which leaves the center of the ice cream as SOUP, and the outside HARD. The volume never increases beyond where it was when I poured it in (it is supposed to increase by half, again). I might as well have mixed up the ingredients and put them directly into the freezer without ever having used the ice cream maker. Supposedly, you're to get "soft serve" but it never gets there. The timer is always off; all in all, this is a very unsatisfactory product. And....it's made in China. Watch out!
