big waste of money Sep 09, 2008 If your the type of person that thinks you get what you pay for DO NOT BUY THIS!!! I paid over $100 on a cooler because I wanted a heavy duty one that I could latch shut. The latch was the main selling point for me because I wanted to take it on canoe trips and not worry about the lid coming open in case of a tip over. At first it seemed to work just fine, until I loaded it up then the weight rendered the latch useless.(I tested another one at the store same thing, its just a bad design) I contacted the coleman company which i must say there customer service was so bad I don't even want to start to try explaining the frustration they put me through. I was told to mail in the defective latch(at my cost) I did and after 8weeks still no word from them. When I finally got a hold of them I was told that I should of never sent the latch in. Finally I got them to agree to giving me a refund. I mailed the cooler with a copy of my receipt to them 6weeks ago and I have not heard a word from them, whenever I call there I get put on hold for 15 min then sent to a voicemail box that is full. A few more things to point out, the steel that surrounds this is very thin and cheap, and the logo on the lower right hand corner was poorly installed and falling off when I took it out of the box. Bottom line I paid a lot for a cheap cooler then they really stuck it to me when I sent it back to them and didn't get my refund.

Coleman 54 Quart cooler Jun 29, 2008 We packed our coleman with two bags of ice on the bottom of the ice chest and all of our food no drinks on top to drive to the high Sierra's. It was a 6 hour drive in 90 to 100 degree temp with the ice chest in the back of the truck in full sun until we got it to june lake then it was kept in a bear box that I shaded with a easy up to keep the sun off the bear box and we had about a 1/4 or a little better of our original ice 5 days later. we didn't have drinks in this cooler so we didn't open it but a few times a day. it out performed our other ice chest ( not coleman) with food in it that we didn't open but a few times a day by about 40 to 50 percent. My next trip I am going to use the coleman for drinks to see how it will do being opened several times a day. For a food ice chest its great, for drinks still to be determine.

Not quite old school May 12, 2008 It's not quite as cool as the old steel version, but still has a nice retro vibe and does the job perfectly!

Retro, sturdy and nice Apr 29, 2008 The Coleman 54 quart steel-sided cooler immediately takes you back to a different time. It is wonderfully built, with metal handles riveted to the body of the unit. The metal latch is a major plus, as this cooler will do most of its duty for me riding in the back of a side-by-side. While the price may initially scare some, compare this cooler with other all-plastic coolers of similar size. The difference isn't much compared with what you get.

Best cooler I've owned Jan 07, 2008 I seem to go through coolers at an astonishing rate. Now I have one that should last. First rate construction, a latch that actually secures the lid and it really keeps things cold! I'll update this if this cooler ever fails.
