Always broke Dec 29, 2007 Flame went out twice, char broil sent parts but happened again, sending defective parts. Would not buy it again.

This Fireplace really burns, even without propane Jul 17, 2006 I recently received this outdoor gas fireplace as a gift. We decided to use this on our patio while entertaining friends. About a half hour or so into using this pit we all noticed the pit emitting thick black smoke. We turned off the gas and unplugged the propane quickly and the pit continued to burn. A hose was quickly dragged over to put out the fire-pit. My house was filled with the smoke. The bottom pan on the foreplace appeared to be the problem, burning a triangle shape into the pan. The pit was returned the next day and Char Broil was notified and sent pictures. In my opionion, this is a hazard and should be recalled but that ball is now in the hands of Char-Broil and the govt. Never again will a char broil product be bought in this household.

A great addition to our patio and hot tub! Mar 30, 2006 We enjoy this outdoor fireplace very much on our patio and near our hot tub. I built a rolling foundation with caster wheels on our outdoor fireplace so it can be easily moved around to different locations on our patio. The advantage of this is the instant fire and moderate heat with absolutely no smoke! Assembly took a couple of hours. I also had a defective valve but I called Charbroil Customer Service and they sent me a replacement at no charge. I recommend this product.

Gaze Into the Fire... Feb 01, 2006 Be forewarned, it takes 2 1/2 hours for someone very handy to assemble this. The directions are fairly complex and in a few crucial spots you have to guess, since the pictures aren't always clear.
Once you get past that, it's wonderful to have. It really is fun gazing into the flames and the extra heat extends our time on the lanai on cool winter nights in Florida.
My one gripe is the arrangement of the fake logs is awkward leaving gaps where the pipes show through. That spoils the illusion of a real fire. We found ours at Lowe's.
This has a lot of pluses (no ashes to remove, no wood to store), so we are pleased with it.
Update (13 months later): We are a little disappointed to see some of the grills around the fire area starting to rust. I saw some paint at Walmart to use around fire that will make it black again.
nice item Sep 29, 2005 does not put off to much heat but a very nice item. The only thing that I do not like is the top part of the pit tents to rust so you have to respraypaint.
